Week 3 Question#6 -"heritage"

"From my family I have learned the secrets of never having a home" (line 44-45) tells about accepting life by learning from the author's experiences and growing up as an individual. The poem "Heritage" also tells that material things are not always as important and as granted. Thus, family-heritage is the most valuable than any other things in life. According to the author, "It was the brown stain that covered my shirt, my whiteness a shame"(line 28-30). In this case, the experiences she had with her family was the most important thing she learned in life and a symbolic message what kind of "secrets" the author learned. "Home" may symbolize material things in life that she may not be materialistic after all the experiences she acquired from her heritage.
