Week 3, question 3

In the poem "Commitments" the author says that "I will always be there, but I am the invisible son" (line 32) I think these opposing statements mean that he will always be there for his family anytime they need him. However, because he is gay he is treated like he is invisible to his family. His family and parents may see him as different and unacceptable because of his beliefs. So, even though he is going through the motions of taking pictures with his family and spending time with them he still feels ignored and forgotten.
