Week 3 Question 6

Heritage by Linda Hogan express the knowledge of her grandmother and how she passed down that knowledge to Hogan. Hogan tells us her experiences and growing up as a person with mixed background (Hogan is part American Indian and part Caucasian). In the statement “From my family I have learned the secrets of never having a home” the author describes both cultures American Indian and Caucasian and how she does not belong to either one. This is an interesting poem where the author describes her past culture and heritage. It seems that Hogan does not identify herself with one culture in fact she feels in the middle of both, and that is why "From my family I have learned the secrets of never having a home.”

  1. I really liked the way you interpreted this poem.Hogan did have a conflict between her mixed nationalities and she felt like she did not belong to either one. Here family taught her about both cultures of her nationalitty which made her part of both of them and leaving her without a home(one home), instead two homes.
