WEEK 1 QUESTION #3

The selection "Araby" definetely has challened my definition and beliefs that I have about romantic love. My interpretation of loving someone is expecting the love in return. Also, having to be in love with that very person, dreaming of being with him and not being able to have him present with me and especially not being able to spend time talking would be the most difficult thing to do. Joyce on the other hand, as a young boy, has not given up on loving Mangan's sister no matter what may faced against him. He continually looked at her brown figure and tried to get a glimpse of her beauty whenever he had a chance. "Her dress swung as she moved her body and the soft rope of her hair tossed from side to side," has really shown me that this woman means the world to him and her image was all he saw.

This short story also corresponds with my defintion and beliefs in such a way that I would have probably felt the exact same way as Joyce did. The reason is because love makes you do indescribable things. Being in love with a person is a great feeling and I have experienced what it is like to think of that person day and night. The first thing that is on your mind is that person and you see their image in your head every minute of your day.

  1. i think that the boy realize that mangan's sister was using him to buy her something from the bazaar when he watched how the woman enteracted with the men. the way she was with the men is the same way mangan's sister treated him. she did not care for the boy. she knew how he felt about her. she used this information to try to get him to buy things for her.
