week1 question 4

The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock .....Wow, this poem was probably the toughed piece of literature I have read in a really long time. The contextual literature helped to better understand the poem it severed as a deciphering tool for me. I choose to focus on Malinda Hollis' writing because it made the most sense to me. In the poem Eliot had a way with had words, he danced around his emotions and this poem is similar to a riddle that had to be broken down to correctly understand. To me, Melinda is able to clearly explain some of the most confusing points in the poem. Melinda defines the character in this poem as not being a confident man rather, he is intimidated by women although he attempts to portray himself a tough confident man it is now clear to me his was not what the type of man that I assumed he was. I cannot confidently breakdown the poem and understand it so to me the different contextual literature's seemed right. The three different author's used good examples when translating the poem however, for me, Malinda's interpretation made the most sense.
