Week 2 Question# 3

In the story "Desiree's Baby", Chopin showed how issues in a bicultural marriage affect relationship such as racial prejudice, unfair gender roles, and social identity. At the beginning of the story, Armand already showed what kind of man he is and when the story start of with the scenery of the plantation and the role of Arman dealing with the black slaves. On the other hand, Armand ironically fell in love with a white woman named Desiree and had a child. As the story goes, Armand's behavior changed dramatically when he had their first child. Unfair gender roles began to see in the story where in Armand dominates in the family most especially when he said to his wife to leave him. Social roles were played in the story when he is actually considered as the boss in the plantation running the slavery system. However, it is funny to know that Armand was after all came from a race that is cursed by the brand of slavery.
